John holds degrees in design and education, and was active in the field of media literacy.  He was on the board of Action for Media Education and has designed the logo and event identities for the National Association for Media Literacy Education.  He taught design at Syracuse University, Cornish College of the Arts, and the Seattle Art Institute.
